Father's Day 2023

June is a special month because we can take a moment to honor our fathers. Those of us who had a father in our lives to protect us, guide us, lead us and love us realize how special that guy really is.

I understand that many people may have had a different experience, but my father was very special in my life. I really did not appreciate him as much as I should have until I was an adult over 35 years old. It was at that point that I began to realize what a special person he was.

My father taught me many things. He taught me to work, and he also encouraged me to be financially responsible. He showed me how to love my younger sisters as well as protect them. He taught me how to think about others while taking care of myself. He respected and loved my mother, and he kept his promise to not separate us after she passed. He was faithful and kept us all together. He stuck by my mother through the years of her life when she was very sick. I'm grateful for his love for my mother.

Don't forget to give a shout-out to your dad. He needs your love and support, just as you need his. Take a moment to talk with your father.

We are in a time when many fathers are not in the home. However, if there is an uncle or surrogate father in the home that is kind and loving in a good way, take a moment to thank him. If he is encouraging you to do good things and helping you to stay grounded, please celebrate him. If he genuinely cares about you and your family, take a moment to let him know you appreciate his kindness.

Happy Father's Day to all of the Fathers.
